This report presents the results of the Norwegian foreign visitor survey, including data for the summer season (May – September) 2002 and some main results for the winter season and the whole year 2002 as well. Altogether 1.9 million tourists stayed overnight and 620 000 day visitors crossed the border during this summer season. Foreign tourists spent a total of 14.3 million guest-nights in Norway during the 2002 summer season, and this implies an increase of two per cent compared to the previous year. The most important source market for overnight stays is Germany, followed by Sweden, Denmark, the UK, the Netherlands and the USA. The visitors during the summer period mainly use four types of accommodation, namely hotels etc. (30 per cent), camping at camp sites (18 per cent), rented cabins (17 per cent) and overnight stays by friends and relatives (17 per cent). In the year 2002 a total of 3.1 million foreign guests stayed overnight in Norway while 1.3 million were on a day trip from abroad. Foreign tourists spent a total of 20.6 milllion guest-nights in Norway in 2002, of which holiday guests constituted 17 million guest-nights.
